Stay and Eat publishes two kinds of content: Editor’s Reviews, written by our editors from firsthand visits, and reader reviews, contributed by members. These guidelines keep both trustworthy.
For reader reviews
- Firsthand only. Review places you have actually visited. Secondhand stories and hearsay will not be published.
- Honest opinions, welcome — good or bad. Critical reviews are published as readily as glowing ones. We edit nothing but spam.
- No conflicts. Do not review a business you own, work for, or compete with.
- Keep it civil. Criticize the food, the service, the room — not the people. No profanity, threats, or personal attacks on staff by name.
- No promotions. Links, coupon codes, and advertising have no place in a review.
- Recent visits carry more weight. Say when you visited if you can.
Moderation
Every review and venue submission is read by an editor before it appears — this usually happens within a day. We decline submissions that violate these guidelines; we do not decline reviews for being negative.
Your control
You can delete any review you have written, at any time, from your My Reviews page. Want to change a review? Delete it and write a new one — reviews cannot be edited after submission. Your email address is never shown publicly, and the name displayed with your review is whatever you choose to enter.
